Giri Balasubramanian

Biomedical Engineer

Giri Balasubramanian is a Biomedical Engineer in the ORBIT Lab, where he develops and evaluates advanced medical devices.

Giri is currently pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Engineering with a concentration in Neuroscience (expected 2025) and has Master’s in Electrical and Computer Engineering, both from the University of Illinois Chicago. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Telecommunication Engineering from Symbiosis Institute of Technology in Pune, India.

He started working at the Innovation Center in Spring 2022 as a Graduate Biomedical Engineer.

Previously, Giri worked as a Research and Development Engineer at the Lions of Illinois Eye Research Institute and as an EEG Research Specialist in Neurology Rehabilitation at UIC. He has also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant on multiple biomedical engineering courses and contributed to neuroscience and ophthalmology research projects.

Giri brings over six years of interdisciplinary experience in biomedical signal analysis, device prototyping, and computational modeling. He is committed to translating complex research into innovative, clinically impactful technologies and emphasizes human-centered design and manufacturability in medical device development.
